Hey Dragons! For this most recent Senior Spotlight, I interviewed Taylor Luong about his time at MCHS and his future endeavors.
To start us off, I asked Taylor what his hobbies were, and he has quite a few. Taylor loves playing video games like League of Legends and Genshin Impact. He likes spending his time watching anime, reading manga, and practices his musical talent for singing. He says he enjoys playing video games the most out of all of his hobbies. He doesn't like to lose and enjoys winning, having a competitive spirit. During quarantine, he’s spent some time playing the guitar, but for the majority of it, he says he’s been sleeping a lot more. I think we could all relate! Aside from his hobbies, there are a lot of things he is enthusiastic about, such as some of our MCHS clubs which include: MESA and TableTop.
“Some of my biggest passions are Table Top and Mesa at our school. For Table Top, it’s really fun playing board games with friends and connecting with people that way. For MESA, I like everyone’s innovative and unique ideas, and I also love winning medals.”
I asked him about his plans after graduation, and he hopes to go to one of his dream universities, which are UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, or UCLA. No matter what college he attends, he plans to specialize in economics. In the future, he aspires to achieve a career in accounting. However, he is up to any possibility that the future holds for him.
For his senior year, he hopes to accomplish many goals. He wants to put education first, to finish this school year strong, and prepare for college. Secondly, he wants to make sure that MESA and Table Top can become successful with attendance and ensure the enjoyment of the members. He also hopes to create a smooth transition for the class of 2022 for the next school year. Lastly, he wants to reconnect with friends and wishes to get the chance to hang out with them and create more meaningful memories.
“Because of quarantine, I didn’t have the same connection with my friends as I did before, so hopefully the second semester will be different, and I get to see them every day.”
He doesn’t hold many expectations for his senior year since it is online. He feels a little disappointed about how this school year has turned out, but he is making the best of it. Even though we only see each other through screens, he is thankful for the teachers and his peers for making school delightful every day.
“It’s really nice seeing everyone again and chatting with my teachers. We’re all tackling online school together, and even though it’s not the usual school year we’re all used to, it’s still really fun and I’m thankful for the teachers for making school enjoyable.”
From the beginning of freshman year to this year, he has grown a lot as a student. Taking college classes and having the responsibility of juggling his school work and good grades made him realize the importance of his education, motivating him to take it even more seriously. Because of MCHS, he has found his interest in economics thanks to Acadec. He has grown out of his shell since freshman year and gained a lot of confidence as well. Now, he has friends that he considers as his family and wouldn't trade for the world.
His number one tip he would give to other students is to join and participate in school clubs. School clubs can help you gain new experiences and connect with others who share these experiences alongside you. You’ll meet new people in MCHS, and you might gain close bonds with new friends throughout them too. Every club at MCHS is unique in their own way, so attend a meeting; maybe you’ll find common interests that suit you.
“I got to know my three closest friends, Sebastian, Antonio, and Kienlac, through Key Club and I’m glad I decided on joining.”
Thank you to Taylor for sharing a part of your high school experience, as well as sharing impactful advice with us! We know that you will accomplish great success just as you have at MCHS, and we are excited to see your personal growth in the future.
