Hey dragons! Since the class of 2020's last year was cut short, we wanted to highlight our seniors and see what's next for them after leaving MCHS.

This senior spotlight will be focusing on Angie Nguyen! Since we have gone on spring break and now quarantine, Angie has started to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a little too much. She said, “It’s pretty bad to the point where I would delay my meals to continue playing the game.” Other hobbies that Angie had picked up again were playing the piano, watching K-Dramas, or anime. Some shows, like Itaewon Class and Crash Landing on You, are really popular right now, so she may start diving into one of those after breaking her Animal Crossing addiction.
Since we are seniors, I wanted to get insight of what our seniors thought about how senior year was for them, despite it being cut short. Senior year is an emotional rollercoaster to say the least, and for Angie, she had experienced many of these emotions, including stress, throughout the year. She said, “The first semester of senior year was very rough for me. I went through many emotional and academic challenges.” November was the most difficult month for her, considering that there were college apps due in addition to all the exams and classes that she needed to study for. When the semester came to an end, everything seemed to be ok. Second semester seemed like a great turn-around for Angie. She had a lighter course load, and her college class was much easier than last semester, which was Calculus 2 (and yes, she believes it was MUCH easier than Calc 1). With having to not worry about doing college apps, Angie wanted her last semester to make more memories with her friends that she had become closer to throughout her four years at MCHS. Since school has moved online, she has missed seeing her friends and going out to get food during free periods. One thing that she wished was for us to have our proper goodbyes. Angie said, “Going to MCHS has given me the opportunity to become really close to some of my high school and college instructors. I am really grateful to have such an opportunity.”
Angie’s advice to the underclassmen would be to plan out what college classes you will be taking in the next four years. She thinks “It makes your life so much easier, and it’s nice knowing that you have a set goal that you want to achieve.” Since different universities require different requirements, you should definitely take a look into them and see what you can complete while you are at MCHS because the classes are cheaper and it’s best to get ahead while you can. Even though MCHS is notorious for procrastinating, Angie strongly advises everyone to not procrastinate, especially on college math homework! Through experience, she advises to stay on top of things, “Do NOT wait and do it the morning of. You won’t remember what you learned in class by then.” The last piece of advice Angie wanted to give was to communicate with your teachers and professors. She had met many professors throughout her four years, and thought they were all very friendly to go up to. She had even started working for her stats professor because of her professional relations with them!
So what’s next for Angie Nguyen, you may ask? She is planning on majoring in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and going into Pre-Med! However, she is still waiting on UC Davis, but for now she is planning on Berkeley, so GO BEARS! She has even submitted her housing application with her roomie which is also very exciting!
